LAL: Spoken word workshop followed by Show!

Posted by admin on Jul 14th, 2009

TUESDAY AUGUST 11TH

LAL’s music is the outcome of a collaboration between vocalist RosinaKazi, electronic music composer and producer Nick Murray (a.k.a. “Murr”),bassist Ian DeSouza, and percussionist Rakesh Tewari. All their records have been released to much acclaim, including their previous release being awarded Best Soul Album 2004 by prominent Canadian music rag Exclaim!Magazine. LAL is a protest band representing Uganda, Bangladesh, Barbados and India. The new record is called ‘Deportation’ and it was creatively triggered by 9/11 and it’s affects, deportations and national security measures, our experiences as migrant peoples, our travels, and those we’ve met along the way, our thoughts & spirits as individuals and communities. We are grateful for the opportunity to make music that speaks to issues of social justice.

“Sound-wise, Deportation is as compelling as its subject matter.”- Toronto Star.
