Migration and Poverty is a project that No One Is Illegal – Vancouver has undertaken in order to better understand the how poverty impacts migrant communities in Canada.

There is a vital need to initiate a dialogue about the poverty of migrants and refugees within Canada, as well as recognize the struggles against poverty- and its roots in colonization and neoliberal economic policies- that force the migration of individuals from the Global South.

This June, Palestinians will mark the 40-year anniversary of Israel’s military occupation of the Palestinian West Bank, Gaza Strip and the Syrian Golan heights. This anniversary comes 59 years after the Palestinian Nakba (“catastrophe” in Arabic) that saw the displacement of over 750,000 Palestinians and the creation of the colonial state of Israel
in historic Palestine. In response to a call from the Active Steering Committee of the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign, cities across Canada and around the world are holding actions against Israeli occupation and apartheid.

Supporters of Iraj Ghahremani have decided to maintain a 24-hour continuous presence and campout outside Citizenship and Immigration offices indefinetely to place pressure on the government to stop the unjust deportation of Mr. Ghahremani.
