No One Is Illegal Solidarity with Refugee Revolt in Australia

Posted by admin on Apr 27th, 2011

Join us for a solidarity picket and flyering action outside the Australian consulate. Thursday April 28, 2011. 12pm – 1pm. Australian Counslate at 1075 West Georgia (at Thurlow) Downtown Vancouver – Coast Salish Territory

On April 20, 2011 detained asylum seekers climbed to the roof of the Villawood detention centre in protest. The next day riots were started in the detention centre by the rest of the detainees demanding justice. Three people continue to be on the roof of the detention centre. Several asylum seekers are now on a hunger strike at the Curtin detention centre in Western Australia’s north. No One is Illegal – Vancouver, Coast Salish Territories stands in solidarity with all asylum seekers in Australia. We denounce the action of the Australian government – its exclusionary immigration and refugee policies that criminalizes migrants as well as the violence of its police forces to quell migrant resistance. Join us this Thursday outside the Australian consulate in Vancouver to send a message and demand justice and freedom for all refugees. Below is a letter of solidarity from No One is Illegal – Vancouver, Coast Salish territories.

Workers Control not Border Controls: Celebrating 125 Years of May Day

Posted by admin on Apr 14th, 2011

Saturday April 30th, 7pm. Rhizome Café, 317 East Broadway. Vancouver, Coast Salish Territories

with Speakers, Performers and Singing Contest! Free Admission! Prize for best performance of “The Internationale” sung in your language so bring your friends and your singing voices for the singing contest.

Join us on the 125th anniversary of May Day, as we stand with workers around the world in celebrating the militant tradition of May 1 as a day to oppose the exploitation of workers. We are inspired by the current global uprisings of the revolutionary people of Africa and the Middle East as they demand better living conditions and fight against authoritarian regimes. We stand with the people of Greece, Wisconsin, Mexico, India, London, Iran, and elsewhere rising up in resistance to cuts in wages and social services in the name of austerity and the capitalist neoliberal agenda. We honour the labour of those who tend to our communities, our children, and to the land every day. We continue the courageous struggle of immigrant and migrant workers across North America against increasingly repressive and racist immigration controls, as we join together to assert our dignity and affirm international solidarity.

PICKET MINISTER OF CENSORSHIP AND DEPORTATION JASON KENNEY!

Jason Kenney in Vancouver! Monday March 14 10 am. CIC Building. Location: 877 Expo Blvd, just behind BC Place – walk over from Tinseltown, very close to Stadium Skytrain station&  Costco

The War Resisters Campaign has called a picket to oppose the governments position on deporting war resisters. No One Is Illegal calls on our allies to join this picket and to oppose all deportations and detentions. Under Kenney, deportations have increased, while the number of people accepted as refugees and sponsored family members have drastically dropped. Instead, Kenney has increased the number of temporary workers who are constantly exploited for their labour. This month it was revealed that Kenney boosted spending in his office by 35%, with much of the money being used for advertising campaigns targeted at so-called ethnic voters.

International Migrants Day is marked globally on December 18 as a day of solidarity with the struggles of migrants.
