Climate Camp protesters have made energy giant BP their latest target by protesting against its plans to extract oil from tar sands in Canada. BBC News found out why. Outside a smart, if anonymous, London office building is the last place you might expect to find an indigenous Canadian singing a traditional sundance ceremony song. But the reason for Clayton Thomas-Muller’s presence in St James’s Square, a short walk from the bustle of Regent Street, soon becomes apparent.

Emerson calls for Project North America

Influential former federal minister and leading business executive David Emerson is calling on Canada to lead a new charge on continental integration. He calls his idea Project North America. Says Emerson: “I think the process of integration has to begin with the two leaders, perhaps three,” outlining a joint vision for closer collaboration.

Security for 2010 games will cost $900M

The security budget for the 2010 Winter Olympics will be $900 million, government officials said Thursday, ending months of rampant speculation about the massive figure. Initially, Olympic officials estimated that security costs for the Games would come in at only $175 million. Since then, that number has ballooned as security experts grappled with the massive undertaking of dealing with the expected flood of visitors, athletes and officials.
