Diab committed for extradition in Paris synagogue bombing case

OTTAWA — Former University of Ottawa professor Hassan Diab was led by police from an Ottawa courtroom Monday to the sound of loud applause and hugs and handshakes from his supporters. It was the end of a short but emotional hearing that saw the alleged terrorist committed for extradition to France. Diab will remain at the Ottawa Regional Detention Centre until a bail hearing, likely in Toronto on Thursday.

Australian government defies growing outcry over deporting refugees to Malaysia

Quebec has blocked government child-benefit payments to Abousfian Abdelrazik, the only Canadian on the UN’s al-Qaeda blacklist, saying Ottawa must get written permission from the UN Security Council in New York before it will issue the monthly cheques every other Canadian parent is entitled to receive.

Mexico Removes Migrants Who Staged Hunger Strike from Prison

SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS, Mexico – The 11 migrants who staged a 24-day hunger strike at a prison in Tapachula, a city in southern Mexico, have been released, human rights activists said. The migrants – nine Cubans, a Honduran and a Dominican – were caught in early May and sent to an immigration detention center.
