Two more arrests as Indigenous protest Border Patrol and militarization

TUCSON – On February 23, more than 40 protesters took to the streets – two were arrested – while six people who locked-down and occupied the US Border Patrol Tucson Headquarters on May 21, 2010 stood trial fighting charges of “criminal trespassing” and “disorderly conduct.” Lawyers William G. Walker and Jeffrey J. Rogers represented the six as the city prosecutor called Border Patrol agents and Tucson Police to testify. The defense argued the trespassing charge was not properly filed and were granted a request to file a memorandum addressing the technicality. The trial is expected to continue on March 22, 2011. Corresponding rallies and actions are being planned.

Tunisia Rejects Italian Plan to Deploy Forces Against Illegal Immigrants

ROME — Tunisia on Monday rejected Italy’s offer to send its armed forces to help stop what one Italian official called an “unprecedented biblical exodus.” The official TAP news agency quoted a government spokesman as saying Tunisia, which deposed its autocratic president last month in a landmark uprising, “categorically rejects any interference in its internal affairs or offense against its sovereignty.”

The Integration of Canada and the USA: “The Security Perimeter” Derogates National Sovereignty

Canada and the U.S. have officially launched negotiations on a trade and security agreement which would take continental integration to the next level. A declaration issued by the leaders follows months of secret preliminary talks. The deal would work towards facilitating the movement of travel and trade across the northern border. This includes pursuing a perimeter approach to security in an effort to better address common threats. The agreement sets in motion an agenda with the aim of going beyond NAFTA and further expanding on the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP), but in the context of a bilateral framework.

TUCSON — On February 23, 2011, 2:00 PM at Tucson City Court, five of the six protesters who locked-down and occupied the US Border Patrol Tucson Headquarters on May 21, 2010 are going to trial fighting one count each of “criminal trespassing”. One of the six has chosen to take a diversion.

Unmanned plane patrolling stretch of Canada-U.S. border

The remote-controlled Predator B unmanned surveillance aircraft, which can fly for 20 hours up to 15,000 metres in the air. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency announced this month that its Predators will be patrolling greater sections of the Canada-U.S. border – from Minnesota to Washington states – looking for drug smuggling, terrorist and other criminal activity.
