The Surrey Board of Trade is hosting a $35 per plate Breakfast with Jason Kenney, on Tuesday, June 26 from 7:30am to 9:30am at Eaglequest Golf Course (7778-152 Street). At this event, the Minister will be making a speech entitled: “Moving Towards a targeted, fast and efficient immigration system focusing on Jobs, Growth and Prosperity”. Kenney and the Tories have increasingly pushed immigration policy towards a labour exploitation policy to serve business and corporate needs. Let Jason Kenney know that his business-friendly and racist anti-migrant and war-mongering policies are not welcome on the West Coast!

BACKGROUND:

• Since re-election, Kenney and the Tories have ramped up their fight against marginalized communities, (im)migrants and refugees in the name of creating a welcoming environment for the world’s richest 1%, while pushing everyone else toward more precarious and exploitative work. Each year, Canada continues to bring in more and more people on temporary work permits while the number of people obtaining permanent residency especially as refugees and sponsored family members continues to drop. This ensures that businesses have a larger pool of cheap labour who do not have to be paid minimum wage, have no labour protections, and are under constant threat of deportation.

• Just this week, the Tories have passed Bill C-31 through the House. This Refugee Exclusion Act is an omnibus bill  that will result in the arbitrary detention, intimidation, failure to protect, and ultimate re-victimization of highly vulnerable people who seek asylum in Canada including women and children. The bill creates a discriminatory two-tier asylum system based on nationality and mandatory incarceration for many refugees: https://noii-van.resist.ca/?p=4717
• June 26th is the International Day Against Torture. Stand up against Kenney and the Tories to let them know that you will not stand by while he pushes for policies that will lead to more people being deported back to torture!
