“I plead guilty. I am a racist” – Jason Kenney, Montreal 2009.

Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Jason Kenney is known as the Minister of Censorship and Deportation because of his record as one of the most repressive immigration ministers in Canadian history. Deportations have increased, while the number of people accepted as refugees and sponsored family members have drastically dropped. Instead, Kenney has increased the number of temporary workers who are constantly exploited for their labour. His new refugee bill creates a racist two tier system based on nationality, and he has called a wide range of migrants– from Mexicans to the War Resisters – “bogus”. Under his regime, an Eritrean refugee committed suicide from fear of a pending deportation, and a young woman was murdered upon her deportation to Mexico.

Kenney is also a staunch supporter of imperialism, stifling anti war voices such as George Galloway and the Canadian Arab Federation. Kenney’s neoconservative values are obvious in his comments and actions: pulling Canada out of the Durban World Conference Against Racism; introducing a citizenship guide that omits the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQ) communities; defending Quebec Bill C-94 that discriminates against women who wear the niqab; and stating that immigrants are not integrating well into (colonial) Canada.

Join the People’s March Against Jason Kenney on July 24th to demand an END to censorship of dissenting voices. An END to detentions and deportations. An END to the exploitation of temporary migrant workers. An END to military occupations from Afghanistan to Palestine. An END to discrimination against women, LGBTQ communities, immigrants, and racialized people. We are rising out of schools, neighbourhoods, and workplaces to reject Kenney’s agenda; join this grassroots movement and rise up with us!

Speak Out Against Immigration Canada

All are welcome!

Every day, hundreds of migrants across the city of Montreal face deportation and detention, dangerous work, exploitative living conditions and the dehumanizing fear and anxiety brought on by Immigration Canada’s unjust, colonial and racist policies.

Every day, non-status migrants walk into hospitals, clinics, schools, shelters and food banks seeking the basic services to which every one of us is entitled, only to find out they are denied access.

These are our neighbours, our colleagues, our classmates. These are people whose only “crime” was to migrate to seek a better life for themselves and their families.

On July 24th, Solidarity Across Borders invites you to a free meal and speak out against Immigration Canada. Together, we will share experiences, stories of previous battles and victories, good food and nice weather. We invite you to join us, as we gather to break the isolation forced on migrant and refugee communities.

July 24th is also a National Day of Action against Immigration Minister Jason Kenney and is an occasion to highlight his repressive track record. Under Kenny, deportations have increased and numbers of people accepted as refugees and sponsored family members has dropped. He has increased the number of temporary foreign workers, who are constantly exploited for their labour. Kenney’s new refugee reform bill will create an even more racist and two-tier immigration system, in which migrants will be accepted or refused based on nationality.

Join us!

** No borders, no nations, stop the deportations!
** No One is Illegal!

About Solidarity Across Borders: Solidarity Across Borders is a Montreal-based network of migrants, refugees and allies. We fight for an end to all deportations and detentions, and for a full regularization program for all non-status migrants in Canada – Status for All! In 2005, we marched for 7 days from Montreal to Ottawa in defense of these demands. In 2009, we launched a campaign called “Solidarity City” for full and just access to basic services regardless of immigration status. We organize pickets, demonstrations, community suppers, activities for children and support individuals and families who are facing the system on a daily basis.
