We are excited to announce the arrival of guest Ray Ybarra from the U.S. Join us on Tuesday for an informal gathering and presentation to learn about migrant justice and border struggles in the United States.

Ray Ybarra grew up in Douglas, Texas one block from the giant steel fence that separated the United States and Mexico. In 2005, he was chosen as one of six Ira Glasser Racial Justice Fellows by the American Civil Liberties Union in order to facilitate his research on border-related issues and has recently graduated from Stanford Law School.

His recent organizing has focused on documenting the actions of vigilantes, including intimidation, physical abuse, and the unlawful imprisonment of border crossers. In addition, Ybarra works at a migrant center in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico and facilitates human rights discussions among the migrants. Ybarra is a member of la Commission de Los Derechos Humanos de los Migrantes para la Zona Norte de la Comision de Pastoral de Movilidad Humana (Commission for the Defense of Human Rights for Migrants for the Northern Zone of the Pastoral Commission for Human Mobility). He has also worked with the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), the New York-based non-profit Witness, the United Farm Workers of America, and Chicanos Por La Causa.
